Scott Chadwick wants his school to have an impact not only on St. Louis but in the world. Through the Maryvilleworks program, which ensures the development of the workforce and the establishment of online guidelines, the school can reach new students across the planet. “Our harshest business challenge has been expanding our geographical trail to other countries,” Chadwick says. “As anyone who has done so knows, it can be challenging to put our brand in new geography.”
Professional achievements and opportunities
What has been the most important success of your company or your company over the past 12 months? Successfully setting throughout the faculty and staff to increase our efficiency and effectiveness, providing more time to spend with students and their teaching.
Has do you have more excited about the future of your company or industry? The ways in which the faculty and staff are focused on students, embracing technology to meet students where they are, and preparing them for careers in our rapidly changing world.
If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why? I want more universities to be like Maryville, where we are committed to access and opportunities. Any person can succeed in college and every person must have the opportunity to do so.
What is the most difficult business challenge that you had to overcome (excluding pandemia) and why? Through Maryvilleworks we offer the development of workforce and setting up. We have local, national and global clients. Our harshest business challenge has been to expand our geographical trail to other countries. As anyone who has done so knows, it can be challenging to put our brand in new geography. But with strong partners, it can be done.
Mentors and peers
Who or where do you go for sound business tips? I have read as much as I can for business, technology and economics. I learn a lot from my friend Tarek Kamil (CEO and the founder of Cerk). My three brothers have extensive experience in law, finance and airspace. And I hear and learn from my customers and the faculty I work with.
Do you have a business mentor? If so, who and why? My older brother Chris is my business mentor. He understands the education industry. It balances strategy and tactics. His career took it all over the world, where he met and worked with employees, suppliers, business partners and world leaders. He challenges me to see things differently.
Which advice has had the most important impact on your career? Believe yourself and be good with people.
If you could have dinner with any business leaders of the two areas, who would you choose and why? PenNington Penning and Jason Hall. I see that both are smart, attractive and really good at what they do. They both care deeply about our region and all the people living and working here.
Who is the most interesting leader of sub-radar/developing business in St. Louis and why? Mike Roth, founder and CEO of Axiom Connected.
What is one thing you would change about the business environment of the Metro St. Louis and why? Improve transport infrastructure, both in support of transport products and to provide tools for talented people to have easier access to good work.

Where were you born? Cedar Rapids, Iowa
What was your childhood aspiration? Be a physical therapist.
What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My brothers and I started an aluminum recycling enterprise when I was in early teens. (They are 2 and 7 years older than me.)
Which educational degrees do you hold, and where were they won? BS in psychology from the University of Iowa. MBA from the University of Kansas. PhD from the University of Kansas.
Hobbies and interests
If you weren’t in your current profession, what would you do and why? Become a consultant to start ups and small businesses. I want to help people move from the idea to reality and help people understand how to make their businesses successful.
What is your favorite restaurant of St. Louis area, and what do you usually order there? Mai Lee in Brentwood. I always order Pho.
What is an item you recently spent from your bucket list? I do not have a list of buckets.
What is a book you think everyone should read (or podcast that everyone should hear) and why? Man’s search for meaning By Victor Frankl.
What is your hobby/passion? Growing food and its use to create recipes in my kitchen.
What is your most precious possession? My health.
Wold what people would be surprised to learn about you – a fun fact? I was lost in the sea shortly away from the island of Prince Edward when I went was thrown out of a sailing boat to go swimming into St. Lawrence’s bay.
