What has been the most important success of your company or your company over the past 12 months? Rechargeing our way forward with our strategic plan of a St. Luke.

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why? The health care business is very complicated for those who receive and provide medical care. Simplifying the process would create a better environment for everyone involved.

What is the most difficult business challenge that you had to overcome (excluding pandemia) and why? At the beginning of my career, I led some hospital turns, which challenged me in different ways. These experiences tested my leadership skills and taught me the value of coping with difficult direct situations. While stressful at the time, those difficulties ultimately helped me become a better leader.

Who or where do you go for sound business tips? Previous mentors, other CEOs of healthcare, as well as successful, non-health CEO if the situation requires it.

Do you have a business mentor? If so, who and why? ABsoli. My first mentor and general director of the hospital, Todd Linden. He always pushed me as a leader and invested in my growth and development. I have learned that I never get away from a challenge. Todd took a risk of hiring me for a leading position and gave me the opportunity to succeed.

Which advice has had the most important impact on your career? Lead with reference power. Embrace the challenges, treat difficult tasks with your head and always be honest with yourself and others.

If you could have dinner with any business leaders of the two areas, who would you choose and why? Bill Dewitt, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Cardinals. His years of success with cardinals and Major League Baseball are extraordinary. He has displayed a resistance that is admirable. Steve Parker, Boeing Defense, Space & Security Operating Chief. I am intrigued about what they do in the airspace industry.

Who is the most interesting leader of sub-radar/developing business in St. Louis and why? Yemi Akande-Bartsch, Ph.D., President and CEO of Focus St. Louis. After following a two-day leading event with her, I was inspired by her knowledge and passion.

What is one thing you would change about the business environment of the Metro St. Louis and why? We need to better display ourselves and our community. This is a fantastic place to live, and we have to shout it from the top of the mountain! We need to turn attention to this best secret kept.

Where were you born? Parma, Ohio

What was your childhood aspiration? To play professional baseball for Oakland A.

What was your first job and what did you learn from it? My first job was the distribution of newspapers to 13. I learned discipline and engagement as a young young man – 4 AM came early during school and summer rest!

Which educational degrees do you hold, and where were they won? A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in healthcare administration, both from St. Ambrose.


Hobbies and interests

If you weren’t in your current profession, what would you do and why? Real estate or a start. Both fields are fast, challenging and always changing.

What is your favorite restaurant of St. Louis area, and what do you usually order there? There are so many great restaurants in St. Louis! If I had to choose one, it’s the restaurant of Paul Manno and Mama’s Lasagna.

What is an item you recently spent from your bucket list? Navigation at Alaska

What is a book you think everyone should read (or podcast that everyone should hear) and why? Good to excellent: Why do some companies make dance and others not By Jim Collins. It is a convincing story about which features and practices are needed to go from good to great.

What is your hobby/passion? My hobby is golf, but my passion is the family.

What is your most precious possession? My family wife, three children and our dog’s child.

Wold what people would be surprised to learn about you – a fun fact? I have played competitive sports throughout my life, starting as an open player Racquetball at the age of 14, all the way to playing baseball college.
